Brief description
This collection contains approximately 7,000 photographs taken in the Kashgar Prefecture of Western China as part of the Kashgar Project. The Kashgar Project brings together teams from the Monash Asia Institute and Urumqi Normal University in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, in an international research collaboration to document, measure, and define the most significant cultural monuments and spaces of Kashgar. The Monash Asia Institute and Urumqi Normal University teams are working with the support of the Department of Tourism, Government of Xinjiang and the Department of Foreign Relations, Kashgar. For the purposes of this collection, Kasghar is defined as the modern and ancient city and the eleven countries that currently form the greater region of "Kasghar".The photographs were taken by John Gollings in March-April 2005 using a Nikon D2x camera and a Kodak 14n camera. All images within the collection have been converted to jpeg format from the raw image files.
