Full description

This series of twelve, monthly, fish-spotting maps has been prepared from logs of CSIRO fish spotting aircraft, the New South Wales State fisheries aircraft and the Fish Protein Concentrate aircraft based in Tasmania. The CSIRO fish-spotting aircraft was funded by the Fisheries Development Trust Fund.

Statement: The fish sightings are identified as to the origin and are placed on the map as close to the area spotted as practicable. Each sighting-mark signifies one sighting per day. The flight paths marked on the maps identify CSIRO flight paths only. The number of flights per month is given, along with the first and last flights of the month. The surface water isotherms have been prepared with the co-operation of the Merchant Ship Sea-surface Sampling program of the CSIRO Division of Fisheries and Oceanography, and isotherm-radiometric mapping from the CSIRO fish-spotting aircraft. The isotherms indicate the surface water temperatures about the middle of the month in each instance. In some cases the isotherm lines are broken, referring to areas where there was no data available to accurately place the isotherms. These broken lines simply connect two like isotherms in the most logical path apparent, and as such, are not to be taken as absolutely correct.
