Brief description

Metadata record for data from ASAC Project 1236 The dataset will include snow accumulation time series 1980-2000, with major ion chemistry, stable oxygen isotopes. ---- Public Summary from Project ---- This is a US-Australian collaborative project to investigate climate variability over the last few decades in George V Land, East Antarctica. The project will produce data on the recent history of atmospheric circulation associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Wave (ACW) and the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the Southern Ocean sector of East Antarctica. The proxy climate data on frequency of precipitation events, snow accumulation rates, and moisture source, will be combined with instrumental meteorological records to understand the mechanisms controlling the interaction between atmospheric circulation between south-east Australia and Antarctica. The project will form a component of the International Trans Antarctic Scientific Expedition (ITASE).
