Brief description Asthma is a chronic disease of the airways that afflicts 2.5 million Australians and poses a significant burden on the healthcare system. Environmental triggers of asthma induce airway destructive inflammation, which is orchestrated through epithelial cells. Investigations are aimed at understanding how a new type of airway epithelial cell and a novel metabolite regulate inflammation and disease and can be therapeutically targeted to reduce the severity of asthma.
