Brief description Insulin resistance and diabetes are strongly associated with developing heart disease. Changes in the metabolism of a substance in blood vessels called nitric oxide are seen in diabetes, and are related to heart disease. I will study the relationship between the levels of insulin resistance and markers of nitric oxide metabolism in human subjects, and investigate how this relates to their clinical outcomes after cardiac surgery.
