Brief description The capacity to control the passage of molecules across membranes underpins cellular function. Potassium channels are membrane-embedded pores essential in transmission of electrical signals. This proposal focuses on the means by which the flow of K+ charge through these channels is controlled and regulated. We are analysing the process by applying a combination of X-ray crystallography and electrophysiological methods to K+ channels in which specific functions have been perturbed by mutation.
