Researchers: Dr Nicole Warrington (Principal investigator)

Brief description The prevalence of cardiovascular disease and diabetes is increasing and the financial burden on society is substantial. Research has shown a link between birth weight and increased risk of these diseases. Genetics may be involved as not all individuals born of suboptimal weight go on to develop disease. This research will identify genes that jointly affect birth weight and future risk of adult disease, leading to a better understanding of the biological relationship between the two.
