Brief description Inflammation arising from infection in the uterus is a common cause of premature (preterm) birth. Using a pregnant sheep model, plus human preterm membrane studies, we will explore the use of a combination of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs given via intra-amniotic injection to prevent fetal and amniotic inflammation, while protecting mother and baby from unnecessary drug exposure. These studies will lead to the design of clinical trials aimed at preventing preterm birth.
