Full description

The Infant and Adult Deaths Record Book recorded deaths of the following categories of patients: adult patients from all wards e.g. Midwifery, Oncology; infants (Neonatal and Perinatal) born to midwifery patients; and critically ill babies transferred to The Royal Women's Hospital as a major neonatal referral hospital.

The patient and infant deaths are recorded in a hand drawn column format (an adapted exercise book), with each double page spread representing a calendar month. The deaths were divided into two categories:

1. Stillborn babies and live births where the infants lived less than 28 days

2.(i) Foetuses less than 20 weeks' gestation or full-term babies who lived over 28 days.

(ii) Adult patients.

(iii) Babies born at other hospitals and transferred to The Royal Women's Hospital.
