Metric: Presence/absence of voluntary codes of practice to protect animal welfare.

Indicates whether voluntary standards exist to support the humane treatment of animals during harvest and handling.

Lineage

Maintenance and Update Frequency: quarterly
Statement: Step 1: Search for information (e.g. in reports) regarding voluntary practices in use by the fishery in relation to animal welfare. Information is likely to be found either directly related to the fishery or in relation to industry/sector organisations representing/related to the fishery. Examples of practices: - Voluntary industry practices or codes of practice for protecting animal welfare - Other forms of animal welfare accreditation (e.g., Humane Society) Step 2: If evidence of voluntary practices employed by the fishery or evidence of accreditation of the fishery is found in relation to animal welfare, report "Presence" and the data's year of provenance and/or publication (for the most recent source) where available. Otherwise, report "Voluntary measures/accreditation not found" and the year of data collection for the framework.
