Full description

‘In the wake of light’ is a short film using footage captured from a motorbike journey through HCMC, Vietnam. The film employs a post-production process designed to present the journey as a sensory exploration of the city through the retiming and overlay of the original footage.

Filming the city in this way captures the everyday experience of motorbike travel, still the dominant mode of transportation in the city. The film aims to establish movement as a primary experience in the city. The exposed nature of the motorbike constructs a relationship to the pavement and the events that take place there. The increasing prevalence of cars can be seen in the footage, and acts as a disruptor to not only the flow of the city but the delicate interplay between traveling on a motorbike and the sensorial experiences of place.
