Brief description More than 140,000 patients are admitted to an intensive care unit each year in Australia. These critically ill patients are some of the sickest in the hospital. The focus of this program of research is to generate new knowledge of better ways to treat common and serious problems of critical illness. The research program includes innovative study designs so that definitive results are available sooner. The expertise and track record gained from this research will be internationally competitive.
