Brief description

There is growing concern that an increase in the frequency and severity of drought under climate change could drive major changes in Australian ecosystems. This collection provides data that supports recent research reported in Godfree et al. 2019 (PNAS, in press). The database contains information on the impact of the Federation Drought Period (1891-1903) on Australian biota extracted from newspaper articles and other historical literature.
Lineage: The database was constructed by extracting information on the impacts of drought on Australian biota during the period 1891-1903. The main information source consisted of newspaper articles and a small number of supplementary historical documents. Full details are provided in the main text of Godfree et al. (2019) and the SI Appendix referenced therein.
