Full description

The objective of the research reported in this thesis was to develop a technique to monitor the dynamics of sediments and nutrients entering the coastal ocean with river plumes associated with high intensity low frequency events (e.g. floods), using ocean colour remote sensing. The data collected included Secchi disk measurements.

Lineage

Maintenance and Update Frequency: notPlanned
Statement: Although this method is not very accurate, it gives a reliable and quick estimate of the transparency of the water. Measurements were made during increasing tide.
Statement: The Secchi disc is a standardised water visibility estimate taken by lowering a white disk of about 30 cm diameter into the Sea and measuring the depth at which it becomes invisible.

Notes

Purpose
During the 19-24 February 2003 field trip to Lucinda Jetty a number of sediment-related measurements were undertaken to study flood-induced suspended sediment transport in the Herbert River mouth and adjacent coastal waters. The data collected included Secchi disk samples.
