Azorella Peninsula - 10 March 2019 (WV3) – Maxar Image ID: 1040010049D0D400 Due to the consistent cloud coverage there was no suitable imagery available over the centre of Heard Island (Big Ben) for this time period. This resulted in an area of missing data over the centre of the mosaic. An earlier QuickBird image captured 4 February 2009 (QB_HeardIsland_04Feb09_z43_Multi.tif) can be used to cover this area to complete the mosaic if needed. Full description

This dataset consists of satellite imagery mosaics of Heard Island constructed from Level 2A WorldView-2/3 imagery GeoTIFFs (WGS84, UTM). Mosaics were constructed for panchromatic (30cm resolution), 4-band multispectral (1.2m resolution) and pansharpened (30cm resolution) imagery.

Notes

Purpose
A mosaic of Heard Island imagery was constructed in order to provide coverage of high resolution imagery for a defined period for the island. The imagery mosaic provided detailed information of the island’s topography, hydrology and geological features to enable the development of more accurate spatial data for use in GIS and mapping. Spatial data of Heard Island is necessary in order to provide information to support management, scientific activities and operational planning in the region. It is necessary to update this information periodically to ensure changes that have occurred on Heard Island due to volcanic, geomorphological or other processes since mapping data was last obtained for the region are captured.
