The locations of the camp sites used and some refuges were collected by Eric Woehler and Kieran Lawton/Roger Kirkwood using Garmin handheld GPS receivers during the 2003/04 expedition. Kieran and Roger used the Jacka Valley camp site and visited the Red Island apple refuge. Eric visited the other camp sites, the Long Beach apple refuge and the site where the Paddick Valley apple refuge was before it was destroyed by weather sometime between the 2000/01 and 2003/04 expeditions. He also provided information about the season in which the refuges were established. Eric also indicated that: - a tank had been left at the Brown Glacier campsite and two tanks left at the Spit Bay campsite after the 2003/04 expedition; and a former refuge (an aircraft engine packing crate) had been located at the current Spit Bay campsite before being destroyed by the weather. The data have been formatted according to the SCAR Feature Catalogue (refer to the link below). This dataset includes the proposed field camp locations for the 2003/04 science expedition to Heard Island, the locations of the camp sites that were used during the expedition and the locations of some of the refuges on the island that were surveyed during the expedition.
