Brief description

The National Health Services Directory ('NHSD'), published by Healthdirect Australia, is a comprehensive and consolidated national directory of health services and related health service providers in both the public and private sectors across all Australian jurisdictions. The purpose of the NHSD is to provide consistent, authoritative, reliable and easily accessible information about health services to the public and to support health professionals with the delivery of healthcare.

Please refer to the [National Clinical Terminology Service](https://www.healthterminologies.gov.au/understanding-clinical-terminology-landing/what-is-snomed-ct-and-amt/) for more information.

This dataset was derived from service, location, organisation, practitioner and practitioner roles profiles accessed through the Healthdirect provided NHSD API and has been spatialised as a point dataset. This directory is presented as a snapshot in time as at June 2026.

This release features a few new attributes:

SNOMED Service classification: service_type, service_snomed_code

Practitioner information: professions, profession_snomed_codes, practitioner_genders

Service attributes: last_updated, languages, new_patient_availability, level_of_care, timezone

Misc: gnaf_id, service_offerings, service_offering_codes

Some attributes in the dataset are data-sparse, as few services have that attributes data available. This is especially prevalent in the public holidays attributes.

Similarly, some attributes have both empty values, and Not Available. An empty value signifies NHSD has no data on this attribute, while Not Available means that the service is “Not Available” for that attribute (e.g. a Service with a value of Not Available for the attribute availability_labor_day means the service is not available on that day).

This dataset is available for access to academic users once they have agreed to the NHSD terms of use; other AURIN users can apply for access to the dataset [here](https://aurin.org.au/resources/data/nhsd-data-application-form/).
