Brief description

Haddon King was responsible for the development of the Hammersley Range iron ore body and was a leading figure in the Conzinc Rio Tinto Australia Ltd mining company. Earlier he was Chief Geologist for the Zinc Corporation Ltd, Broken Hill 1946-1952. He developed a number of novel theories on the formation and evolution of ore-bodies.

Haddon Rymer Forrester King (1905-1990), geologist, was born on 4 February 1905 in Georgetown, British Guiana, son of George Forrester King and his wife Jessie Ann, née Kingsland. He began his career...
Born British Guiana, 4 February 1905. Died Brisbane, 11 March 1990. Surveyor's licence, British Guiana 1929; degree in mining engineering, University of Toronto 1933. Geological Survey of British Guiana 1926; Geologist, Western Mining Corporation Ltd, Kalgoorlie 1934-42; army service Australia and overseas 1942-46; Chief Geologist, Zinc Corporation Ltd, Broken Hill 1946-52; Chief Geologist, Consolidated Zinc Pty Ltd 1953-57, Director 1957-62; Director of exploration, Conzinc Rio Tinto of Australia 1962-70. Sometime director, Baas Becking Geobiological Laboratory. Penrose Medal, Society of Economic Geologists 1970; Clarke Medal, Royal Society of New South Wales 1973; Browne Medal, Geological Society of Australia 1984.
