Statement: Note added by Henk Brolsma, Mapping Officer, Australian Antarctic Division 7 December 2011. The geological data and mapping are based on the 1971 National Mapping map (map number 42 in AADC map catalogue). The 1971 map is inaccurate and is derived from 1947 and later aerial photography and Blake's surveys of 1911. Purpose
Macquarie Island This information was copied from the Mineral Resources Tasmania web site: http://www.mrt.tas.gov.au/ (go to the "Site Map", and find the link to "Macquarie Island") The geology of Macquarie Island was mapped between December 1994 and January 1996 in a joint project involving Mineral Resources Tasmania, the Australian Antarctic Foundation and the Australian Antarctic Division. The geological data have been compiled onto a base map that has been derived from several sources: The Spot multispectral satellite mosaic produced by the Australian Centre for Remote Sensing (ACRES) 1994. Division of National Mapping Macquarie Island 1:50 000 topographical map (1971) warped to conform with the satellite mosaic along the coastline and lakes. Incomplete aerial photography flown in 1976 (mainly in the north of the island). GPS positions and field observations. Maps have been produced at three scales: 1:50 000 which covers the whole island, two 1:25 000 scale maps which split the island just south of Sellick Bay, and seven 1:10 000 maps which have a north-south extent of 5 kilometres. Output is on an ink jet plotter and lamination of maps is recommended where outside use is envisaged.
