Brief description

The Global Petrophysical Database (GPD) is a global compilation of petrophysical properties for a wide range of rock types, obtained using a variety of in-situ and laboratory measurement techniques. Properties include porosity, density, permeability/hydraulic conductivity, diffusion coefficients, tortuosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity and radiogenic heat production. Mechanical properties are not currently included. The GPD incorporates data from several pre-existing databases (covering more than 500 publications) and more than 50 individual publications. The data can be used and analysed in many ways, such as identifying depth trends or correlations between parameters.

The data may be useful for a wide range of geoscientific applications, including hydrogeology, mineral exploration, geothermal studies, petroleum geology, CO2 geosequestration, H2 storage, waste disposal and contaminant dispersal studies.

The dataset is provided in the form of a spreadsheet and CSV files corresponding to each worksheet.
Lineage: The data were compiled from a variety of sources, including journal articles, reports, theses and existing databases.
