This dataset is part of the Geological Survey NSW Geophysics dataset series.Total magnetic intensity (TMI RTP) data. The image is a pseudocolour layer with a histogram-equalised colour-stretch. Cooler colours indicate lower values and warmer colours represent increasingly higher magnetic intensity values. This shows the TMI of the Earth's magnetic field and was generated by merging many individual airborne surveys. Magnetic data were filtered to 'reduce to the pole' which removes the polarity of the field for inductively magnetised sources (migrating magnetic features closer to their source), but this may also remove effects due to remanent magnetisation. Variations in the magnetic field respond to the intensity of magnetisation, which is controlled by lithological factors, principally magnetite (and or pyrrhotite) content. The intensity layer was enhanced and a 3x3 sun filter applied to the image. Sun illumination was set at 10 degrees elevation and 90 degrees azimuth. See the NSW statewide grids DVD set for TMI RTP values in nanoTeslas (nT).
