Brief description

## **Abstract**

This dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. The parent datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

Version 1 of this dataset (GAL Hydrochemistry Formations QC for TDS v01, GUID: 2e03c68b-dc32-4ac0-b4b3-314856232b1e) was found to contain a number of anomalous samples deemed to be the probable result of sample contamination or analytical error. Further filtering was therefore undertaken to generate this version of the dataset before interpretation and analysis of the hydrochemistry data.

This dataset is a filtered spatial representation of hydrochemistry bore information in the Galilee subregion (Bioregional Assessment areas v03, GUID: 96dbf469-5463-4f4d-8fad-4214c97e5aac) and Eromanga geological basin (Geological Provinces - Full Extent, GUID: 0a064b3b-2a1e-4672-80d9-03333be67aad), with a particular focus on total dissolved solids (TDS) as an indication of water quality. It was used to assess the quality of groundwater in aquifers contained in the Galilee subregion and Eromanga geological basin and to characterise the the aquifers based on hydrochemistry and understand the hydrochemical processes operating in each aquifer.

## **Purpose**

This dataset was created to provide TDS data for use in the Groundwater Quality section of product 1.5, and to provide hydrochemistry data used in characterising groundwater systems in the Galilee subregion in product 2.13.

## **Dataset History**

After an initial QC filtering process, preliminary maps were prepared of the data in the GAL Hydrochemistry Formations QC for TDS v01 dataset (GUID: 2e03c68b-dc32-4ac0-b4b3-314856232b1e). Further data filtering was then undertaken based on the location of some bores with high salinity values.

Where a region of high salinity was centered on a single bore, with low TDS bores surrounding it, the bore with high TDS was removed from the dataset.

Where bores showed very high TDS with no controls around them, they created a very large region of salinity. These bores were also removed if it seemed unlikely that such a large saline region would exist. It is assumed that these anomalous TDS values are caused by sample contamination or analytical errors.
