Brief description In the Fremantle Diabetes Study Phase I, detailed data were obtained from a community-based patient cohort between 1993 and 2001. There is strong evidence that diabetes in Australia is changing rapidly. To provide up to date data to health care providers and government, to confirm observations made in Phase I and to venture into new areas, Phase II began in 2008. We plan to extend Phase II for a further 5 years by following all 1,732 patients to achieve at least 6 years of comprehensive assessment.
