Brief description

This record describes the trace metal dataset from the MNF RV Franklin survey FR 01/2000, titled "TROPICS 2000: A continuing investigation on the supply of nutrients, organics and trace metals to the equatorial region from the Sepik River and their influence on coastal and oceanic primary production." The survey departed Cairns (QLD) on January 14, 2000 and arrived in Rabaul (Papua New Guinea) on February 3, 2000.

Samples were collected from the Vitiaz Strait, along a transect from the Sepik River to Manus Island, in the New Guinea Coastal Undercurrent (NGCU) at 144 E and 143 E, and along the equator at 143E and 150E.

84 TM samples were collected, including 6 filtered samples and 3 quality control blanks and 75 salinities.

Parameters: Concentrations of unfiltered (total dissolvable) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel. One station with 6 samples included filtered (total dissolved) cadmium, copper, iron, manganese and nickel.
