The Governor appointed the municipal district of Footscray to establish a Court of Petty Sessions on 26 September 1859.The Courts held at Footscray include:
* Court of Petty Sessions/Magistrates' Court from 1859 to 1985
* Children's Court from 1907 to 1985.
The Footscray Court closed from 1 February 1985 and its extant records became the responsibility of the Broadmeadows Court.
