Brief description

Quarterly data updates on reported interactions with Threatened, Endangered and Protected (TEP) species (formerly known as Species of Conservation Interest (SOCI)) with Queensland commercial fishing operation, since 2006.

Data fields: year, quarter (Q1 is 1 January to 31 March, Q2 is 1 April to 30 June, Q3 is 1 July to 30 September, Q4 is 1 October to 31 December), region, fishing method, species, released condition, total number of interactions.

Notes :

This data represents information submitted by the fisher through logbook reporting requirements. This data has not been validated, and some records and species identification may be under further investigation.

The increased reporting of TEP interactions is a direct result of the mandatory NX IOM program, in conjunction with improved education, identification, handling, and reporting of protected species with industry.

Fisheries Queensland monitors all interactions reported by fishers through the Threatened, Endangered and Protected (TEP) logbook. Protected species interactions, and in particular mortalities in all East Coast Inshore Finfish fisheries are managed in line with the approved Protected Species Management Strategy (PSMS), July 2021. This strategy outlines the prioritised protected species and are subjected to appropriate response dependent on category identified in the policy. This species list can be found in Table 5 of the PSMS.
