This study is based on the understanding that, as a country made up of more than 300 islands with a varied population, Fiji provides a special educational environment where culture and indigenous knowledge have a substantial impact on science education (Fiji Bureau of Statistics, 2016). The aim is to understand and analyze current teaching practices, explore how cultural values shape teaching methods, and examine the complex relationship between cultural factors and science education. The project also aims to explore science teachers' perceptions, the integration of cultural values in their teaching, and the challenges they face. Additionally, it will investigate students' perspectives on how cultural values affect their engagement, interest, and comprehension of science education, with a focus on the inclusion of cultural values in science teaching and learning and its impact on their attitudes toward learning science. The final thesis will provide valuable insights that have the potential to affect debates on successful pedagogical practices, cultural responsiveness, and the adaptation of teaching approaches in science education. within the unique context of rural Fijian secondary schools.
