Brief description

Organized and incorporated in 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago. In 1894 the name was changed to Field Columbian Museum; in 1905 to Field Museum of Natural History; in Dec. 1943 to Chicago Natural History Museum; in March 1966 the earlier name, Field Museum of Natural History, was restored. Works by these bodies are found under the folowing headings according to the name used at the time of publication: Columbian Museum of Chicago, Field Columbian Museum, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago Natural History Museum.
