Brief description Patients with severe heart failure and cardiac arrest sometimes need an external machine to oxygenate and pump their blood, which is called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). ECMO is extremely expensive, and the use of ECMO across Australia has doubled in five years without key information about the risks and benefits. This partnership will bring together experts in heart failure, clinical trials, registries and evidence translation to systematically improve outcomes for these patients.
