Brief description Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in people of working age. A hormonal system called renin-angiotensin is implicated in the development of diabetic retinopathy, and new evidence indicates that its blockade improves aspects of the disease. This project will examine if succinate/GPR91 mediates the over production of renin and represents an additional target for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
