4 worksheets:
1. “wind speed” - Daily average wind speed (km/h) during the growing seasons recorded at Casey Station from 1960 to 2022.
2. “MSLP” - Daily average mean sea level pressure (hPa) during the growing seasons from 1960 to 2022.
3. “SAM” - Monthly Southern Annular Mode (SAM) index from 1979 onwards.
4. “Ozone” - Mean ozone hole area (million km²) averaged over 7 September – 13 October for each year from 1979.

Lineage

Progress Code: completed
Statement: 1. Some meteorological variables contain unavoidable missing values; for example, the TUVR dataset includes a continuous gap spanning up to nine consecutive days. 2. As the HPLC separation protocols varied between the two seasons, potentially affecting the absolute pigment concentrations. Pigment ratios (e.g., Chl a/b, Z/Tchl) were used to enable meaningful comparisons of pigment composition across seasons.

Notes

Purpose
There is limited understanding of seasonal wind speed variability during the East Antarctic growing season, and of how such changes influence the physiological and ecological functioning of native vegetation. This dataset supports a study near Casey Station, East Antarctica, which combines long-term wind-related climate records and large-scale atmospheric indices with seasonal physiological data from dominant moss species across two contrasting growing seasons.
