Full description

These data were collected from laying hens during the early laying phase to determine the effects of UVA and UVAB light supplementation indoors relative to control lighting (no UV spectrum) on egg production/quality, plasma Ca, P, 25(OH)D3 , bone Ca and P and breaking strength.

Measurements were made on individual hens within the three treatment groups across different time points of their body weight and external health indicators. Blood samples were taken periodically from a subset of hens to extract serum and plasma for mineral and vitamin assessments. Egg production and egg quality was assessed daily/twice respectively and leg bones were extracted from a subset of hens to assess bone health.

All associated data belonging to this experiment have been uploaded to the data access portal through CSIRO.
