Small hive beetles were maintained under controlled temperature, humidity and light conditions. Seven-day-old adult females were assigned to one of four diets: control, protein-supplemented, sugar-supplemented, or pollen-supplemented, with six replicate containers and 20 females per treatment. After seven days of dietary exposure, females were mated with males for two days, after which 20 eggs were collected from each replicate and monitored for five days to determine hatching success.
