Full description
This project undertakes the studies required for Marine Stewardship Council certification. This includes an Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) and an Environmental Management Strategy. There is also a commitment to collect information on the interaction of the fishery with species such as sea lions and turtles.The project will:
* publish an ERA report;
* develop and implement an Environmental Management Strategy;
* develop formal monitoring systems on interactions of fishery with species such as turtles and Australian sea lions; and
* identify ways to minimize any mortality of sea lion pups entering rock lobster pots.
Industry will need to provide information on interactions with seals and turtles. An education campaign to seek co-operation has begun.
