Full description
The Road District of Echuca was established on 19 February 1864. It was proclaimed a Shire on 26 May 1871. Between 1878 and 1893 the Shire was redefined many times as parts were severed and annexed. On 27 October 1909 the name of the Shire was changed to Rochester (see VA 2497).The name Echuca was also used to describe a Borough and City which existed from 1864 to 1994 (see VA 2427).
