Full description

These aerogeophysical data were collected as part of the ICECAP (International Collaborative Exploration of the Cryosphere through Airborne Profiling) collaboration in 2015/16 (ICP7) and 2016/17 (ICP8). These data were in part funded by the US National Science Foundation (grant PLR-1543452 to UTIG), Antarctic Gateway, ACE-CRC the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, and supported by the Australian Antarctic Division through project AAS-4346.

This data collection represents geolocated, time registered geophysical observations (L2 data). These data are derived from L0 and L1B data published as separate datasets. The data format are space delimited ASCII files, following the formats used for UTIG/AAD/NASA's predecessor ICECAP/OIB project at NASA's NSIDC DAAC. Fields are described in the # delimited detailed header for each granule.

Statement: On ICP7 flights F03, F04, F05 and F09, the left hand radar antenna was not operational. On ICP7 flights F06, F07, F23 and F24, the radar antennas were not installed. In ICP7, there was a power mismatch between the left and right receivers. On ICP8 flights F01 to F06, the antenna beam pattern had a nadir-directed null due to a reversed balun. Positioning data for flights ICP7/F04, ICP7/F18 and part of ICP7/F09 was unavailable as of submission due to data corruption.

Notes

Purpose
These aerogeophysical data were collected as part of the ICECAP (International Collaborative Exploration of the Cryosphere through Airborne Profiling) collaboration in 2015/16 (ICP7) and 2016/17 (ICP8). These data were in part funded by the US National Science Foundation (grant PLR-1543452 to UTIG), Antarctic Gateway, ACE-CRC the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, and supported by the Australian Antarctic Division through project AAS-4346. This data collection represents raw instrument data (L0 data). These data are used to generate L1B and L2 data, which is published as separate datasets. Data formats are described in raw_data_formats.tgz. Level 0 EAGLE_RADAR: raw voltage records acquired on separate left and right channels at 196 Hz acquired by ELSA; organized by project/system/transect. 16-bit integers representing voltage are in the bxds files, and a version of the header reformatted to ascii text (but no other modifications) is found in the xds files. For the ct and xds, each radar record is separated by a line feed character. Time basis is a common 100 kHz counter timer (the last field of the text ct files). Level 0 EAGLE_TRANSECT: raw data samples in instrument units acquired by ELSA; organized by project/system/transect. Instrument data is in the bxds files, and a version reformatted to ascii text (but no other modifications) is found in the xds files. For the ct and xds, each sample is separated by a line feed character. Time basis is a common 100 kHz counter timer (the last field of the text ct files). Level 0 EAGLE_FLIGHT_BASED: raw data samples acquired by GPS (in RINEX 2.14 format) and GT-2A gravity meter, and JPG images from the downward looking camera; organized by season/system/flight. Time basis is in GPS time.

Data time period: 2015-12-31 to 2016-02-15
