Dungog Public School in the County of Durham was established in January 1851.(1) A Public School had a minimum attendance of 30 children prior to 1867, 25 children until 1880 when the number was reduced to 20. From 1957, the minimum number was reduced to nine.(2) Dungog School was as a Public School until 1889 when it became a Superior Public School. A Superior Public School offered both primary and post-primary education. Dungog Superior Public School reverted back to a Public School circa 1915 and remained under this status until December 1952. Between January 1953 and December 1970, Dungog was a Central School. A Central School was identical in character to the older Superior Public Schools in offering both primary and post-primary education.(3) From January 1971 Dungog Central School once again became a Public School offering only primary education.(4) In 2003, the school was located in Chapman Street, Dungog in the District of Taree.(5) ENDNOTES1.
