Full description

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was established in 1989 and had a specific charter to suppress the activities of middle to upper level drug traffickers and to decrease the availability of illicit drugs. It includes investigative, legal, analytical and administrative personnel.

Units within the Drug Enforcement Agency include: four task forces whose role is to identify and immobilise drug traffickers. They target specific areas through covert operations;
* the Plantation Unit which investigates the organised cultivation of cannabis . One of the major focuses of the Plantation Unit is the Cannabis Eradication Program which runs from October through to May (1). ;
* the Undercover Unit which infiltrates criminal organisations to identify drug traffickers and those involved in other serious crime; and
* the Support Unit which targets middle level dealers and also assists the task forces, plantation unit and regional drug squads. (2).

The Drug Enforcement Agency, and all its branches, appears to have been abolished some time after 1999.
