Brief description
Dr Ruth Lorenz is a Research Associate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science (ARCCSS). She is based at UNSW and she is interested in the interactions between the Earth's land surface and climate. She uses climate models and her main focus are land-atmosphere feedbacks during extreme events. She is investigating how well extreme events, such as heat wave or droughts, are represented in the global climate model ACCESS. An important aim is to find out more about the link between land surface anomalies and extremes and how the description of land surface processes in the models affects the simulated extreme events.
During her PhD at ETH Zurich in Switzerland she used regional climate models coupled to land surface models of different complexity to investigate land-atmosphere feedbacks in Europe.
