Full description
I am a Professor of Affective Computing at the Human-Centred Technology Research Centre, University of Canberra, and Adjunct Fellow at the Research School of Computer Science at the Australian National University.. My research interest in the area of emotion research focusses on multimodal affective sensing technology. I am working on an affective sensing system that incorporates a number of different sensors from different sensing modalities, such as audio, video, and physiology.
I strongly believe that only multimodal systems that use complementary sensors are able to deliver the robustness required for deployment in real-world situations. This raises issues about the integration of the data from the various sensors, keeping in mind that each sensor might have a different and variable reliability, as well as real-time analysis.
In terms of applications, I am interested in applications in the health care and aged care, sports studies, as well as in person monitoring applications in safety-critical areas, for example driver assistance systems and air traffic controller monitoring.
Other research interests of mine are in the areas of:
- Multimodal HCI
- Auditory-visual speech processing
- Computer vision
- Image processing
