For his PhD, Michael Johnson investigated whether virulence markers in the protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, influenced disease outcomes in humans. With a background infectious disease research, he is currently imaging bacteria, parasites and viruses with various high end optical microscopy techniques at the Microbial Imaging Facility at UTS.
