Mat’s work focusses on how forms of urbanisation changes local climate, and how global climate change manifests in cities. His PhD involved extending an urban climate model to include the environment within buildings, allowing the prediction of heating and cooling energy demand and health impacts under various urban planning and meteorological conditions. His current work includes developing coupled, cross-scale model systems to examine impacts on energy consumption, human health and the local environment at climate timescales.
