He conducted postdoctoral research at the Salk Institute (La Jolla, USA) with Professor Joseph Ecker and at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (Madrid, Spain) with Roberto Solano. Mat joined AgriBio in April 2016 to further his interests in genomics, systems biology, and plant science.

Mathew is actively involved in the investigation of gene expression from the individual gene to genome-scale using a combination of wet bench and computational approaches. His research focuses particularly on RNA silencing, DNA methylation, plant hormone signalling networks, and seed germination.
