Full description
Adrian McCallum's primary research pertains to the use of snow as a construction material and in the in situ assessment of snow mechanical properties, specifically the use of commercial cone penetrometer equipment to assess the strength of polar snow. Adrian recently completed his PhD in Cone Penetration Testing at University of Cambridge.
Now at University of the Sunshine Coast, Adrian teaches geotechnical engineering in addition to climate change adaptation, and continues to progress his polar research.
Adrian's research areas include:
- Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) particularly in frozen geomaterials
- glacial hazards
- snow mechanics, snow roads and runways
- polar oceanography, meteorology and glaciology
- alpine glaciology and hydrology
- cold regions engineering
- polar traverse logistics
- light-weight scientific expeditions
- development and employment of Remote or Autonomous Vehicles (RAVs) for research purposes
- climate change adaptation.
