DP708 - A national transfusion data asset for Australia

Research Investment

Researchers: Erica Wood (Principal investigator)

Brief description Monash University manages the Massive Transfusion Registry (MTR), an internationally unique, multi-institutional collaboration collecting data on massive transfusions in all clinical settings. Over 10,000 cases have been submitted from 41 hospitals across Australia and NZ (ANZ). However, a national transfusion dataset is required to support policy and research which integrates pre-hospital and in-hospital transfusion data, as well as capturing ALL hospital transfusions, not just massive transfusions. Monash also manages national datasets including for blood diseases such as myeloma, lymphoma and aplastic anaemia which already contain longitudinal data. Linking this transfusion dataset with clinical registry data will show how and why blood products are used, and the clinical outcomes of transfused patients.
