Full description

The project brings together 10 contemporary artists and designers responding to volcanic landscape of the Stony Rises area in the Western District of Victoria. Funded by the RMIT Design Institute and NETS touring exhibition agency, the exhibition was launched at RMIT Gallery and is followed by tour of public galleries in Victoria. At the first venue 5117 people attended, 28 media references are recorded, with 5 reviews or references in The Age alone.

The work interprets the various layers of narrative of place, history and the literary, cultural and architectural interpretations of the Stony Rises area. It is the first comprehensive survey of its kind and notably brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous contributions. The project is supported by well-documented book, that can be used as a stand alone reference during and following the exhibition tour.
