Brief description
Domain data provides a near-real-time view of how Australia's property market is advertised, searched, transacted and described, at both property and area level. Domain is one of Australia's major property platforms, and its data reflects activity across residential, commercial and business listings, real estate agencies and agents, new development projects, property records, suburb performance indicators, weekly auction results and location profiles. For researchers who are new to the data, it is useful to think of Domain as a source of market-facing property intelligence: it captures what is listed, where it is listed, who is advertising it, how places are described, and how property markets are performing across suburbs and cities.Through AURIN, eligible researchers can access selected Domain Data Products for applied research, academic publication and internal non-commercial proofs-of-concept. The data is accessed programmatically through the AURIN Data Provider platform rather than as a bulk download, meaning each request retrieves current results at the time it is made. Access is subject to application, approval and acceptance of the relevant end-user agreement, and a monthly query limit applies across the available Domain Data Products. This access model is designed for structured, query-based research workflows where users retrieve the specific locations, time periods, property types or records needed for their analysis.
Because Domain uses its own property, suburb, region and location identifiers, the data does not map directly onto ABS statistical geographies by default. AURIN therefore provides correspondence tables to help researchers connect Domain suburbs and regions to standard Australian geographies such as GCCSA, SA2, SA3 and SA4 boundaries. These lookup files are important for spatial analysis, comparison with Census or other AURIN datasets, and aggregation of Domain-derived indicators into recognised planning and research geographies.
## WHAT THE DATA PRODUCT COVERS
The Domain Data Product is organised into two broad categories of endpoints.
### Group 1 Agents & Listings covers market activity:
Search listings: residential (sold, for-sale, for-rent), commercial, and business-for-sale records, filterable by location, price, property type, bedroom count, date listed, and more. Searches can also be drawn as a map polygon. Results are capped at 1,000 records per query.
Sales results: weekly auction clearance rates and median prices by city (current week only, no historical data)
Agent and agency profiles and their associated listings (limited to agencies and listings hosted on the Domain platform, not the full market)
New development projects, with the individual unit or lot listings retrieved separately
### Group 2 Properties & Locations covers individual properties and area intelligence:
Property details: specs, photos, and full sales and listing history for a specific address
Suburb performance statistics: aggregated quarterly market metrics (median sold price, days on market, auction activity, median rent, rental yield) at the suburb or postcode level, over a rolling ten-year window. Houses and units are queried separately.
Suburb demographics: population characteristics including age distribution, household income, occupation, and tenure type, for Census years (2011, 2016, 2021)
Location profiles: a summary of property activity and pricing for a suburb or area
Coverage is Australia-wide. Listing records reach back to around 2000 and are densely populated from 2018 onwards; earlier years exist but are sparse and should not be relied on where complete market coverage is required. Sold listings cover properties advertised on Domain and are not a complete record of all market transactions.
