Full description

This dataset was collected during the 2021 TEMPO voyage in the East Antarctic sector of the Southern Ocean as part of the Marine National Facility RV Investigator research voyage IN2021_V01. The voyage took place from Hobart (TAS) to Hobart between 29 January and 24 March 2021 (AEST) under the TEMPO (Trends in Euphausiids off Mawson, Predators, and Oceanography) program. Acoustic data collected along transects between 55°E and 80°E were analysed using CCAMLR standard protocols (SC-CAMLR, 2000) to identify Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) echoes and estimate krill areal biomass density.

Observations were obtained using a calibrated EK80 scientific echosounder operating continuously at 120 kHz in cold-water conditions. Krill biomass estimates were complemented by biological sampling using a Rectangular Midwater Trawl (RMT 1+8), providing measurements of krill total length and wet mass.

The dataset describes the spatial distribution and biomass density of Antarctic krill across the eastern sector of CCAMLR Division 58.4.2. Supporting data are provided in CSV format and are organised by instrument type, enabling integration of acoustic and net sampling observations for further analysis.
