Full description

This dataset contains dissolved and particulate calcium (Ca) measurements collected during the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2020_V08, SOLACE – Southern Ocean Large Areal Carbon Export: quantifying carbon sequestration in subpolar and polar waters, conducted from Hobart to Hobart between 4 December 2020 and 15 January 2021. Samples were collected in the Australian sector of the Southern Ocean at the Southern Ocean Time Series (SOTS) site and two polar bloom sites using CTD rosettes and in situ pump systems. Dissolved and particulate Ca concentrations, total alkalinity (TA), and supporting hydrographic and nutrient measurements were used to investigate calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) cycling and to evaluate dissolved calcium and potential alkalinity as tracers of CaCO₃ production and dissolution in Southern Ocean waters.
