Brief description This project aims to define the role of the enzyme heparanase in a number of important diseases, namely Inflammatory-autoimmune diseases such as multiple scelorosis and rheumatiod arthritis, and the growth and spread of cancer. Heparanase has been implicated for many years in promoting these diseases however its precise contribution has not beed defined. These studies will provide definitive information whether heparanase is a valid therapuetic target in these important disease settings.
